The only caution I would offer is that you develop a "false feedback detector." In other words, as you become more receptive to advice and criticism from your people, you also must become more astute about what’s valuable and what should be ignored. Letting some things go in one ear and out the other is an adage worth applying in certain situations. If you take all criticism to heart, you’ll be devastated. If you follow all the advice you’re given, you’ll encounter many detours and dead ends. Therefore, filter your feedback; as it comes in, ask yourself if it should be taken seriously or if it should be dismissed. Just being aware that some feedback can be discarded makes it easier to encourage others to give it to you. If you take every piece of feedback as gospel, you’ll probably grow to hate what your people have to tell you and discourage them from telling you anything.

TONY’S FEEDBACK AHA!

Swallow your pride, swallow the feedback, and count to ten.
